The Plight of the Rolly Polly
There once was a Rolly Polly
Who crawled on the dining room floor
Who crawled on the dining room floor
Until along came a young woman
Who ushered him out the door.
Who ushered him out the door.
...
Now he is shivering in the wind
As he crawls along the garden bed
All he wanted was a nice warm place
to lay his wee little buggy head.
As he crawls along the garden bed
All he wanted was a nice warm place
to lay his wee little buggy head.
The thing that he doesn't know
The knowledge better not told
The knowledge better not told
He's better off than the spider last week
She killed that poor sap, cold!

Fence Post with a View #30
While I usually try to use photos of Wyoming in this series, I just could not resist the use of this meme found on the internet for this weeks post. The urge to use the meme is not so much the photo as is the message that overlays the photo.
Due to recent local and national political campaigns, it feels like much of America has forgotten how to behave like our mothers taught us. My mama taught me better. I hope your mama taught you better. I hope this meme reminds us all that we need to listen to our mamas!
By the way, since I used their meme, here is the link to Cute-N-Country They have some really cute T-shirts for the Country kid in you! (I am not affiliated with Cute-n-Country and am not paid for the link)

Some Chicken Love
Today's post gives you some Chicken Love!
Let's face it. A person cannot be sad when a chicken is around. They are so busy...doing what chickens do.
Pecking, picking, drinking and chasing each other off from a delectable morsel is just cute behavior.
Cute makes humans happy!

The Scottish Pretender
If we are going to have a Scottish Pretender for President of the United States of America, let's at least make sure that he is a good actor. It doesn't hurt that he is very attractive, as well!
Dinna Fash, America!
Write in....James Alexander Malcolm McKenzie Fraser for President!

You Walked Away
We lost a good friend on the Homestead last week. I have been trying to think of how to honor a cat. Missy has been in our lives for 19 years. She has been an outside cat all of those years.
She has been on many adventures with our family. A few years back, she rode to town in the engine of my husband's truck. After spending a few days roaming around town, she ended up on the back porch of a former neighbor's house. We were so happy to have her back with us.
To honor our dear friend, please enjoy this poem written in her honor.

You Just Walked Away
By Sherone Taylor
You just walked away
No notice, no words
Orange tail twitching.
A splotch of white
In a field somewhere
Under a fallen limb?
No noise to tell us
You might need help
With your dying.
Nearly twenty years
You meowed “NOW!
Feed Me Now!”
Today, you walked away
No notice, no words
To save our sorrow.

A Simple Tutorial For Freezing Rhubarb
1. Cut Rhubarb when the stalks are red.
2. Trim leaves off of stalks.
3. Cut the stalks into 1" pieces.
4. Mix 1 cup sugar with stalks.
5. Place 2 cups stalks in zip type freezer bags, making sure to press out as much air as possible.
6. Freeze.
Note: My recipe for Strawberry Rhubarb Pie calls for 2 cups of rhubarb. This is the reason why I put 2 cups in the bags. Substitute to match your recipe.

New Obsession - Outlander on Starz
Where the heck have I been? How did I miss an entire season of Outlander on Starz!
To try to explain the series to my readers, I have borrowed the description from the first book, called Outlander, by Diana Gabaldon. I quote, "From Book 1: Claire Randall is leading a double life. She has a husband in one century, and a lover in another... In 1945, Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon—when she innocently touches a boulder in one of the ancient stone circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an "outlander"—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of our Lord...1743. Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire's destiny in soon inextricably intertwined with Clan MacKenzie and the forbidden Castle Leoch. She is catapulted without warning into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life ...and shatter her heart. For here, James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a passion so fierce and a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire...and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives."
Since I watched the first episode, I have been hopelessly addicted. I binge watched the first season in one weekend. No food, no sleep, just bathroom stops in between episodes. I was disappointed to see you had to pay for Starz to watch the new episodes. I swore to myself that I was going to let the obsession go.
The cost for streaming Starz was $8.99 plus tax per month.....I paid it. I lost that battle. Here's the link How to join me in Outlander Addiction
The new battle in the war on Outlander Addiction seems to be waiting a whole week in between episodes. It is complete and total torture! I would rather be flogged than have to wait to see what adventures Jamie and Claire are going to delight us with. In my attempts to control the ravages of addiction that has taken over my body and soul, I swore to myself that I would not go buy the books. There are EIGHT of them, after all! I cannot afford to buy eight books.
The cost for the books was $77.92 plus tax.....I paid it. I lost that battle. Here is the link How to Further Your Outlander Addiction into Dangerous Depths
Reading the books is quenching my thirst for Scottish entertainment......to a certain extent. I felt the need to find out what is behind the scenes of the actors who play the parts in the series. I mean, Jamie and Claire are not real, right? Right? Anyway.......I decided that scouring the internet to find out every little detail about them would be pushing the addiction envelope to a new extreme. I am not a person who would post pictures of Jamie Alexander Malcom McKenzie Fraser on Facebook! I am not a girl who would join Caitriana Balfe Twitter page or bookmark Tobia Menzies IMDB page.
But I did!
In conclusion, I would like to advise those who think they may have similar obsessions. Following is a list of symptoms of Outlander Addiction/Links:
1. If your entire week schedule is planned around Saturday night at 9pm EST, you might have a problem with Outlander Addiction.
2. If you have become a member of The Church of Heugnanology, you might have a problem with Outlander Addiction.
3. If you are Listening to the Books on You Tube when you can't be actually holding the books, you might have a problem with Outlander Addiction.
4. If you can't hold the book or listen online because you are driving a motor vehicle, so you buy the Audio Book on CD, you might have a problem with Outlander Addiction.
5. If you read this entire post in a Scottish accent (it was written in a Scottish accent), you might have a problem with Outlander Addiction.
I hope that this narrative helps others who might suffer from the same afflictions. If it doesn't, then here is something that will no doubt make you feel better! His Heughanship Himself!
Disclaimer: If Starz gets their nickers in a wad about this post, I say this: Stop yer whinin', lads. I have provided a link to yer page. Just so ye ken, I make not a shillin' off this blog.
